Madison County is located 35.8582N and 82.716W.  According to the US Census Bureau's 2000 Census, Madison County is comprised of a land area of 449 square miles and has 43.7 persons per square mile.

Air

The Asheville Regional Airport (AVL) is located 32 miles south (at exit 9 of Interstate 26) at the Buncombe-Henderson County line.

Closest Interstates

  • I-26 (Madison County extension currently under construction)

The I-26 freeway  - most of which is already completed - will replace the US-19/23, our current north-south connector. This is an extension of the current I-26 which runs southeasterly from I-40 in Asheville to Charleston SC

  • I-40 at Asheville (18 miles south via US-19/23)
  • I-81 at Johnson City TN (38 miles north vis US-23)

  • US-19 - links eastern communities of the county to the major US-19/23 highway.
  • US-23 - our major north-south connector (will be redesignated as I-26)
  • US-25 - links the northwestern communities and is access to Knoxville TN
